University Safeguarding Training & Services
We deliver a broad range of university safeguarding training and consultancy services, available online, in-person or bespoke-designed around your institution’s needs. From accredited Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training to Safer Recruitment, Governance briefings and full policy reviews, every programme is led by practitioners with sector experience.
Safeguarding training framework
Designed specifically for the higher education environment, our training combines practical, sector-focused learning with recognised, accredited qualifications. Each programme addresses the safeguarding responsibilities and challenges of university life, helping staff apply their learning confidently and safely, in-line with regulatory and statutory responsibilities.
Our framework supports every level of responsibility, from essential awareness for frontline and student-facing teams, through operational safeguarding for specialists and managers, to strategic leadership for those accountable for safeguarding across the institution.
Each programme builds on the previous level with Principles of Safeguarding developing the knowledge covered in Awareness of Safeguarding, with additional training on raising concerns, sharing information and responding to disclosures. HEDSO® incorporates the full FAA Level 3 qualification alongside in-depth exploration of the duty of care, the Prevent duty, online harms, HE-regulation and international safeguarding.
HEDSO® Programme

This two-day programme is ideally suited to Designated Safeguarding Leads, Designated Safeguarding Officers, Wellbeing Officers, Wellbeing Leads, Mental Health Advisers, Counsellors, Disability Advisors, Course Leaders, Managers and Heads of Service.
Awareness of Safeguarding

This three-day programme is designed for Higher Education Professionals and partners with specific responsibilities in Safeguarding (DSO, DSL, Heads of Service, Directors), to give them the tools and knowledge to make a difference to a student’s life and ensure their institution or organisation is compliant with regulatory requirements. Further, in-depth analysis of the Duty of Care and the Prevent Duty is explored through case studies and regulatory guidance.
Principles of Safeguarding

This one-day programme is suitable for any individual with an interest in Safeguarding children and adults at risk, particularly where it is related to an existing role in Higher Education.
Safeguarding for University Governors

This two-day programme is suitable for university teaching staff, safeguarding staff, human resources recruitment staff and all others in the education sector who are involved in staff selection. This programme can be run online or in-person.
Mental Health First Aid

This half-day (4 hours) programme is designed for Higher Education Governors, Trustees and Council Members to give them the tools and knowledge to identify and fulfil their safeguarding responsibilities. It will also provide up-to-date developments in the areas of the Prevent Duty as well as duty of care in higher education.
Safer Recruitment

Delivered by an accredited Instructor Member, who is approved to deliver MHFA England courses, this two-day programme is ideal for individuals who would like to become an MHFAider® to gain the knowledge, awareness, and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health, be confident to start a conversation, and signpost a person to appropriate support.

Institutional Safeguarding Reviews

Delivered by an accredited Instructor Member, who is approved to deliver MHFA England courses, this half-day programme is ideal for individuals who would like to refresh their previously attained Mental Health First Aid England training.
Safeguarding Supervision for Professionals
